Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of interest rates and exchange rates on credit demand in banks in Southeast Aceh Regency (Kutacane) during the 2020–2024 period. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that, partially, interest rates have a significant negative effect on the number of borrowers. This indicates that rising interest rates tend to reduce credit demand, consistent with the Loanable Funds Theory. Conversely, the exchange rate does not have a significant partial effect on credit demand. This reflects a local economic structure that is less integrated with the international trade sector, so exchange rate fluctuations are not a dominant factor in people's credit application decisions. However, simultaneously, interest rates and exchange rates significantly influence credit demand. This finding emphasizes the importance of macroeconomic policy coordination in creating a healthy and stable financing climate. Overall, this study suggests the need for more adaptive interest rate policies, strengthening financial inclusion, and empowering the local real sector to encourage productive credit growth in the region
